Content rights requests

Updat3 publishes its own multi-source syntheses and links to the reporting they draw on. Stories show a source outlet's name, publication time and a link to the original. Updat3 uses third-party material only as permitted by applicable law, license, provider or source terms, or other applicable authorization.

If you are a rightsholder

Email updat3news@gmail.com with:

  • your name, organisation and your relationship to the content (owner or authorised agent);
  • the Updat3 page or pages concerned;
  • the original work, with a link where possible;
  • what you believe is wrong and what you are asking us to do.

Every request is logged with its date and outcome, reviewed by a person, and answered. Logging a request is not an admission that any use infringes a right. Where a request is valid we act on it, which can include removing material or ending use of a source.

Our crawler (Updat3Bot)

When a story cites an article we know only through a news aggregator link, Updat3 may look up that article in the publisher's own sitemap and read the article page. These requests identify themselves as Updat3Bot with a link to this page and a contact address. The crawler reads robots.txt first and obeys the rules for the updat3bot user agent (or * when none names it); to opt out, add User-agent: updat3bot with Disallow: /. It makes a small number of spaced requests per site, stops on errors or rate limits, and does not fetch sites whose terms we have recorded as prohibiting automated access.

Factual corrections are handled separately

To report a factual error in a story, use “Report an issue” on the story page. See also our Terms and how we use sources.
